Samhain Pendant Workshop

Date: Saturday 11th November 2023
Location: The Makery, Straßburger Straße 37, 10405 Berlin
Price: 135€*

Samhain is first day of the old Celtic year. Pronounced sau-wen (ˈsaʊ.wən), it marks the boundary between Summer and Winter, a dark and introspective time of the year traditionally associated with personal reflection, renewal and remembrance.

You will work with wax, exploring the many playful ways it can be used, and model it into your very own pendant. Like true pagans, we’ll focus on organic textures, natural forms, and use found objects such as stones, shells, and tree bark as mark-making tools.

Perhaps you'd like to create a sun talisman for the cold winter months ahead, carve a constellation, or model a sprig of mistletoe? Or perhaps there's an animal or bird you associate with the winter months?

There's many avenues to explore, and there'll be a selection of books, reference images, tools and natural materials to help spark your ideas. And to guarantee an adequately cosy evening, we'll work alongside candle light, with a pot of tea close at hand.

Your finished wax carving will be taken away by Stephanie to be cast in silver or bronze before being polished and finished in her studio. Your pendant will then be posted to you in a beautiful presentation box with a chain, cord or ribbon of your choosing, just in time for you to wear, or gift at Christmas.
